How to give managers the confidence to lead pay conversations
Give managers controlled access to salary benchmarks and pay ranges to help them explain pay decisions more confidently.

Berlin tech salaries have climbed steadily in 2026 – and when measured against the rest of Europe, the market is more competitive than its reputation suggests.
The median full-time tech salary sits at €80,000, up 4.6% from last year, with mid-level roles in software engineering and data science broadly in line with the UK and well above most other European markets.
These figures and the many more below draw on two sources: the 2026 Handpicked Berlin Salary Trends survey (4,627 responses) and Ravio's live European benchmark data, added this year for the first time to put Berlin's numbers in broader market context.
Here’s what the data shows.
For the full breakdown of Berlin salary trends – including additional insights on gender pay gap analysis, return-to-office, job switching intent, and detailed cuts by company size and industry – read the complete Berlin Salary Trends 2026 report by Handpicked and Ravio.
Across all roles and levels, the median full-time tech salary in Berlin is €80,000 in 2026, up 4.6% from €76,500 in 2025 – based on the Handpicked and Ravio 2026 Berlin Salary Trends report.
The average sits higher at €83,949 – likely pulled by a tail of senior and leadership roles which land in the six figures, which is exactly why the median is used in salary benchmarking as a more robust figure which is less influenced by outliers.
To give a snapshot by career track to start with, Ravio's benchmarking data shows median salaries in Berlin ranging from €41,500 for Support roles up to €156,100 for Executives, with Professionals/ICs at €73,000 and Managers at €100,300 – significant differences from the overall median.
It’s also important to put those numbers into context to understand how salaries in Berlin compare to the rest of Europe.
Ravio’s benchmarks show that Berlin sits above the European median across each career track:
The gap is most pronounced at Professional level, where Berlin runs around 16% above the European median, and narrowest at Executive level where compensation tends to converge globally.

Ravio salary benchmarks: median salary Berlin vs Europe
Ravio's benchmarks break this down further by job level, across both the IC track (P1-P6) and management track (M1-M5).
Here’s the median salary per job level for Berlin across all roles:
We can see that Berlin salaries climb consistently with seniority across both tracks, with the steepest jumps at the P3-P4 transition (€59,900 to €82,700, +38%) and M3-M4 (€90,500 to €118,100, +30%) – reflecting the step up from mid-level to senior roles in both IC and management careers.
If we then compare Berlin benchmarks to Europe-wide, we can see that the picture is more nuanced than Berlin purely being more competitive for salaries than the rest of Europe.
At early-mid level (P2, P3) and lower levels of management (M1–M3), Berlin actually sits below the European median – with M3 running around 10% below Europe-wide. The same pattern holds at very senior IC levels (P5, P6) and M5.
Where Berlin pulls ahead is at P4 and M4 – the mid-to-senior sweet spot. P4 Berlin (€82,700) runs 7% above the European median, and M4 Berlin (€118,100) sits 11% above – the largest positive differential across both tracks.

Berlin salaries of course also vary considerably by role.
Let’s take a look at some of the most common and in-demand roles across the tech industry.
Looking at Ravio’s salary benchmarks for Berlin, we can see that a mid-level IC (P3) Software Engineer commands a median salary of €80,600 in Berlin.
For a senior manager (M3) in Software Engineering (an Engineering Manager), that rises to €118,400.
Compared to other European markets, Berlin P3 Software Engineers are broadly in line with the UK (€81,100) and above the Germany-wide median (€78,700). At M3 level, a gap opens up – UK senior engineering managers earn €134,900 against Berlin's €118,400, with Spain considerably lower at €89,700.

Similarly, if we look at Ravio's benchmarks for AI Engineering and ML Engineering at P3 level, both sit above Software Engineering in Berlin – AI Engineering at €81,200 and ML Engineering at €80,800, against €80,600 for general Software Engineering.
It’s a modest premium overall, but consistent with the growing demand for AI and ML skills.

Looking at Ravio's salary benchmarks for Berlin, we can see that a mid-level IC (P3) Data Scientist commands a median salary of €79,500 in Berlin.
For a senior manager (M3) in Data Science, that rises to €117,500.
Compared to other European markets, Berlin P3 Data Scientists are closely aligned with both Germany (€79,200) and the UK (€79,100). As with Software Engineering, at M3 level, the UK pulls ahead (€136,300), while Spain sits considerably lower at €88,300.
